I wanted to show surgical treatments as well as chemotherapy and radiation in this painting, while exhibiting a sense of vitality and hope that overrides the physical side effects.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eCrabs approach our protagonist as a nod to Hippocrates who likened the spreading parts of a tumor to their legs, thus giving us the term “cancer.” They bring the blackness of cancer itself with them, however the light and radiation, represented by the sun, overcomes the darkness.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe journey through breast cancer treatment requires unparalleled strength. This painting is an ode to the more than two million women diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide every year. Cancer does not define their identity or diminish their self-worth.
